I used to study law and philosophy. One day, I realised that I didn’t want my ideas to be tucked away in journals, and I went to art academy.
Today, I am the Chief Design and Art Director at NOS Nieuws, the national news broadcaster in the Netherlands. Here I combine my interests for journalism and visual storytelling. My role involves leading our design teams, turning news stories into something you can see and feel, and other times I focus on the overall look and feel of the NOS.
I have turned my ideas into installations, companies, games, movies, photography, stories and publications. That might seem quite diverse, but it's all about imagination and human interaction. Here you can dive into my work to see the mini-worlds I have created and the stories I have told.
"Stick to one thing." While it's tempting to narrow your interests to a specific area, I strongly believe that curiosity always trumps routine.
Whether it's stumbling upon money right on the street (article in Dutch) or running the startup-studio at the Dutch Football Association (despite not recognizing more than four famous football players), looking around has become the foundation of my work.
I have had the privilege of speaking at conferences and events like SXSW Interactive, TEDxVicenza, IDFA, CreativeMornings and various festivals, sharing my passion and experiences with others.
“Het oogspelletje is een ode aan de creativiteit, voer voor de verslaafde. Namens de hele patiëntenvereniging zeg ik: Daniel Disselkoen, bedankt!
